Back in secondary school, juniors were officially assigned to seniors who were referred to as school mothers or fathers {informally}. However, you could playfully call your mate ‘school mother’ if you had good rapport. That’s how I called this lady back in Yagss where I met her the 1st time.
She was one of the popular girls. Suspected to be “lawless” lolx. Like I said, ‘suspected’, and boy oh boy she is a character worth knowing. It’s been a decade since we left school and after 10 years what connected us was another mate’s wedding where she did this beautiful make up on me.
Besties, this Saturday we’re chatting with a make up artist aka Barbie. It’s her desire to read law one day so keep that in mind.
As usual, I’ll be NC throughout the convo.
NC: Good morning and welcome to 10QFNC
Good morning b and thank you for having me 🤗
Q1. How would you like to introduce yourself?
I’m Faustina Akua Amanfi, a professional Makeup Artist and the Creative Director of @barbielooksgh.
Q2. Wondering, did you (always) want to be a make up artist?
Not when I was in school, I wanted to be something else then, a lawyer. It was during my national service that I realized I had the passion for it. I’ve always loved to be extra when it comes to looking good so back then I’d do some “alo” makeup but to my friends and I, it was the best 😂, then I realized there was more to makeup than just applying anything on the face. So I started attending makeup classes even before I started sending out application letters.
Q3. There was a stigma attached to make up & MUA(make up artist) some few years back. Did you notice it and has it changed?
Ever since I started makeup professionally, I haven’t experienced anything of that sort. But I’ve heard other colleagues share their past experiences and it’s quite funny. I think it was because makeup wasn’t really a thing back then, but it’s better now due to the high demand of our craft in recent times.
Q4. Are you a freelance MUA or there’s a studio one can walk in as well?
I’m a freelancer hun, just call on me from any part of the world and I’m there 😊
NC: Even in Zambia? Lolx
Yellzzz babe 😂 but if one wants a walk-in service it can be arranged as well.
Q5. What’s your career plan for the next 5 years?
To be well known for my outstanding craft, to have my own makeup brand, makeup academy and studio where everyone can walk in to learn and get dolled up whenever they want to 🙏🏽.
Q6. Is there anything you wish could be changed in or about Yagss?
Hell no, not a thing. I loved and still love my school with all my heart please 😂. Just that the buff loaf should be a little bigger 😝. I don’t know if they still eat that though 🤷🏽♀
NC: 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
Q7. Between unity and competition, which is higher amongst Ghanaian MUAs?
It’s unity from my observation or maybe it’s because of the association I belong to. Not ruling out competition totally though because that challenges us all to be better.
Q8. Do men do make up as well… done some on any?
Oh yes! They do, and I’ve done some on a couple of them before. It was for a music video and a fashion show.
Q9. For someone whose job revolves around brides and weddings. Are you under any pressure to get married?
Not at all hun, I’ll get married when I get married, no pressure whatsoever 🙅🏾♀
NC: That’s it!
Yellzzz.
Q10. Did you know any lesbian from SHS?
Eei no oo 🤣.
NC: Do you believe there were some indeed?
I do. Lol.
NC: It’s been a great conversation.
Before you go, kindly give us one make up tip
It sure has. This tip is for oily skin babes; apply a little translucent powder on top of your moisturizer and primer before applying foundation. Thanks for having me.
